    MEET THE GOVERNORS

    Jonathan Rist (Chair)

    I have lived very happily in Stretham for many years now and am thrilled to be a governor of Stretham Primary School. Being involved in such an important aspect of the local community is incredibly rewarding, and I am pleased to be part of a team that strive to make the school as successful as it can be. Having taught for nearly 20 years and being Deputy Head of a Cambridge prep school, I am hopefully able to bring some complimentary educational insight to the board.

    Angela Dix (Co-opted governor)

    I have lived in Stretham since 2017, after moving from Norfolk where I had been a school governor for twelve years at two different schools. I have been a governor here since January 2021. I have been a teacher at primary and secondary level for over twenty years and currently work as an educational consultant and trainer. I hope to use the experience gained to support Stretham Primary to the best of my ability.

     

     

    Steve Ellison (Local Authority governor)

    I am a retired headteacher who has worked in education for more than forty years. I have lived and worked in Cambridgeshire for more than twenty of these years. I am delighted to be in a position to support a local school as a governor.

     

     

    Simon Garth-Greeves (Co-opted governor)

    My name is Simon Garth-Greeves. I work as a civil servant with the DVSA. After moving into Stretham in 2021 and given a very warm welcome I decided I wanted to give back to the community. Joining the school governing board proving guidance to the school I believe is a fantastic opportunity to give back to such a strong community. I look forward to supporting the school and local community to the best of my abilities.

    Hannah Parkinson (Co-opted governor)

    I moved to Stretham in 2020, my family and I were attracted to the village by the warm and welcoming community.

    I have experience working in the public sector, including policy formation and using data to support evidence led decision making. 

    I was previously the chair of the Tiddlywinks Pre-school committee and with my son now attending the school I chose to become a governor so that I can a support the education and development of the young members of our community. 

    Jon Partridge (Vice Chair)

    I became a parent governor and now Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors in 2022 having moved into Stretham in 2020 and living locally since 2015. I have over 15 years experience in the public sector, working in governance and supporting elected Members to hold Council services to account including those delivered for children and young people. With two young children at the school I am delighted to be part of supporting Stretham Primary and helping to guide its future by supporting our children to achieve their full potential.

    Helen Spencer (Staff governor)

    Having been a member of staff for 6 years, I have very close links to members of Stretham community. I am proud to work at the school and I am thrilled to represent the staff as a school governor. I strongly believe, the children at our school deserve the very best start with their education and I will endeavour to do what I can to support this outcome.

    Trudie Davidson (Clerk)

    I’m Clerk to the Governors and run my own freelance admin business. Prior to this I was employed for 18 years by Cambridgeshire County Council as a Business Support Officer with the Race Equality & Diversity Service. I also work as part of CCC’s CamClerk service. Away from work I’m a keen photographer, mum of two grown up daughters and a smitten grandma. 

     

     

     

    The school’s governing body is made up of parents, local people, staff at the school and appointees from the Local Authority. Their role is to oversee management of the school and set out the aims and objectives.

    The core functions of governors are:

    1. ensuring there is clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
    2. holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils and the performance management of staff
    3. overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent
    4. ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard

    COULD YOU BE A GOVERNOR? 

    We currently looking for new governors. You don't necessarily have to have children at, or connections to, the school, but maybe have skills such as finance, property, health and safety, HR etc, or just want to be proactive and involved in children's education. If you would like more information, or to arrange a chat with the Chair or visit to the school, please contact the Clerk. The leaflet below gives more information on community/co-opted governors. When there are vacancies for parent governors all parents are informed and nominations invited.

    MEETINGS: The full governing body meets once a half-term. Please see the information section below for a list of this year's meeting dates. Other meetings are held by the Finance Committee and, when needed, by Working Parties. Governors are only too happy to discuss their role with parents and listen to suggestions, comments and concerns.

    MINUTES: It is important that parents are informed about the governors’ work and decisions.  Therefore governing body minutes are available to view, on request, from the school office.

    COMPLAINTS: The governing body can be required to respond to complaints about the school. However, it is appropriate for such matters to be brought to the headteacher’s attention in the first instance.
