Our Last week as Ladybird Class.
What a lovely week. The children in Ladybird Class were busy using their learnt symmetry skills to decorate butterfly biscuits which they then shared with their big Buddies in Year 6. We also spent a whole day forest schooling.

What a wonderful start to the week - our 'Step and Stride' sponsored walk on Tuesday morning! We had a lovely walk to Little Thetford (or very nearly!), enjoying a drink and a biscuit half way and a refreshing ice pop on our return. Well done Ladybirds - you were all amazing!

How many objects are left each time? The winner is the player that takes away the last object. Can you record the subtraction calculations.

We had a wonderful time Forest Schooling this week.
We look forward to you returning for the beginning of the Summer term all refreshed on Wednesday 20th April. We have had a really busy week in Ladybird Class. In our Maths, we have been learning the days of the week. We read the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk' and then sequenced the pictures putting the days of the week in the correct order.
In PE this week, we practised our jumping, making shapes and landing safely, all centred around the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

This week we have gone all Chinese themed to develop our fine motor skills.
We had a wonderful time in our Forest Schooling session. Some of the children got the chance to cook a chocolate orange cake. (The rest of the children will get their chance next week).
In Mathematics we have been learning to recognise, correctly write and the seven-ness of number 7.
This week in Literacy the children have been learning to correctly pronounce, recognise and write the phoneme 'l' and the tricky words: no, go, I.
This week Ladybird Class have have enjoyed visiting the gallery to view our special whole-school art project, where each year group looked at a different artist and a specific piece of art.

Maths
This week, although it was very cold, in our Forest schooling session the children enjoyed cooking tomato and cheese wraps, creating dragon sneezes with carbon striking sticks, building dens and cooking in the mud kitchen.

This week in our Mathematics we have been learning about one less (subtracting one). We also learnt how to record a score when playing a target game. We compared the scores using the language 'more and less'.
This week Ladybird Class have have enjoyed learning about the artist Leonardo Da Vinci this week, for a special whole-school art project, where each year group is looking at a different artist and a specific piece of art. After learning about Leonardo Da Vinci, we had a go at creating our own piece of art work of Mona Lisa. We will show you more next week.

All of the Ladybird Class staff would like to wish all of our children and their families a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Many thanks for the kind presents. We look forward to seeing you all again in January!

This week in Mathematics we gathered together a set of 5 cubes and explored all of the different shapes we could build.
In PE this week we were Superheroes. We worked on our 'Social' skills by working co-operatively with others, sharing equipment and completing the tasks. We were developing our 'Emotional' skills by showing confidence to take part in new challenges and our skills of 'Thinking' by listening to and follow instructions.

This week in our Forest Schooling sessions the children enjoyed cooking and eating apples with raisins, cinnamon or brown sugar. Look carefully at all the different fun things we got up to.
In PD this week the children have been using and developing their pincer grip muscles by stretching elastic bands over Lego bricks, using tweezers to remove tissue balls from pinecones, threading buttons onto cocktail sticks.
In Mathematics this week the children have been working out how many different ways they could make 4 and then 5.

This week in our Forest Schooling we got a bit wet but it didn't spoil our learning and fun.
On Thursday we spent time talking, thinking and learning about Remembrance Day (Poppy Day).
This week in Literacy we learnt about the phoneme 'e'
This week we were very lucky to have a visitor who taught us some Street Dance moves which we put together to make a routine.
In PD this week the children have been using and developing their pincer grip muscles and steady hands by creating tower cities by using corks and lacing buttons, tearing small pieces of paper and creating multilink towers to balance marbles on top. In the Finger Gym the children have been balancing using their pincer grip to create button pictures of Poppies.

In PD this week the children have been using and developing their pincer grip muscles by threading beads, sticking stickers and sticking tissue paper to begin to create a tree. In the Finger Gym the children have been balancing marbles.
In our Mathematics sessions this week we have focusing on recognising, correctly forming and understanding the value of three.
This week in our Forest Schooling session. This week the rest of the children got to cook and eat Smores around the fire. The children also got into the beat of the music.
PE will take place on Monday and Thursday Mornings. Please ensure that if your child has long hair it is tied up on this day and that no jewellery is worn. If your child normally wears earrings, they will need to be removed for health and safety reasons.
We had an amazing time Forest Schooling this week. Could we please ask that you return your child's cleaned wellies every Monday morning. Could you also ensure that every Friday morning when we are Forest Schooling your child is wearing layers of warm clothing under their waterproof clothing. Some children felt a little cold. Please send, in a LARGE shopping bag, your child's school uniform, spare pants/knickers, socks, school shoes and a spare clean coat, as the coat they have worn in the Explorers Area may get wet or muddy and will not pleasant for them to wear during their lunch playtime. NB There is no need for a water bottle for Forest Schooling as we provide the children with drink.

Early phonics in Ladybird Class
This is a short video to replace the Early phonics meeting I would have run if we hadn't of found ourselves in the current climate of Covid.
Another wonderful week in our Forest Schooling session. This week some of the children got to cook and eat Smores around the fire.
During our Storytime this week we have been enjoying various witch themes stories: Winnie the witch, Meg and Mog, In the witches kitchen.
In PD this week the children have been balancing eyeballs! Rolling playdough to create spooky shapes, using their drilled conkers from Forest Schooling session last week to make a Conker catcher. The children showed great perseverance when playing 'catch the conker'.
In PE this week the children have been using their Gross Motor skills to move around on the large gym equipment.
From Friday 15th October we are going to spend our Friday mornings in the school’s Explorers Area. These sessions are a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn from their natural environment and to extend their imaginative play. On these days please could your child come dressed to school in practical, appropriate clothing. When choosing clothing for your child to wear please remember that…There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing!
Appropriate clothing would be:
- Old thick leggings or jogging bottoms
- Long sleeved t-shirt (even if it is hot! This is to protect arms)
- Jumper, cardigan, fleece.
- Sun hat/woolly hat/gloves/scarf etc
- Waterproof coat and trousers/all in-one
- As the weather gets colder - sock layers or thermal socks
- Wellies (if you want to use the pair of wellies you already have stored in school, please ask Mrs Bowen on Thursday morning who will arrange to have them sent home that evening so your child can come ready on Friday – sounds complicated but it works! Wellies should then come back in on Monday (preferably cleaned!))
NB: Please layer your child’s clothing as the weather gets colder. You may perhaps think about purchasing a ski suit It will get well used this year! (Aldi usually do a good value range in November)
On Explorers Days, please send your child’s school uniform in to school with them in a large, named reusable shopping bag. After the morning of Exploring, your child will change into their uniform and put their Explorers clothes in the bag to take home. Warning: Your child’s clothing may get very dirty!
