Stretham Community Primary School

Welcome

Sports Premium

At Stretham Community Primary we believe that every child should have access to a diverse range of physical activity and that children should enjoy and proactively participate in sport at school. Having a fun and varied offer of activities in school as well as the opportunity for children to reflect on the sporting activities they do outside of school is an important part of supporting active and healthy futures.

All primary schools receive PE and Sport premium funding on an annual basis to support the quality of PE, physical activity and sport offered by schools. This funding can only be used for PE and sporting activity and schools are required to report on how it has been used and the impact it has made on an annual basis in relation to five main aims:-

  1. Increasing the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  2. Increasing the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity. It's recommended that all children and young people engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school
  3. Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  4. Offering a broader experience of a range of sports and physical activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increasing participation in competitive sport

As well as the above aims, swimming is part of the national curriculum and by the end of key stage 2 pupils are expected to be able to swim confidently and know how to be safe in and around water. Whilst schools cannot use the PE and Pupil Premium to funding buildings or swimming pools the school is required to provide support key stage 2 pupils to deliver these objectives.

We are required to report on the previous years activity and outcomes but to ensure we get the best use of the funding available the school produces an action plan for the next academic year. The latest action plan is available below:-
